Abstract
Employee welfare and employee development are the most important aspects of work environment, therefore, there is government intervention in the compliance of welfare measures as specified by the Indian Constitutional Act for employee welfare and benefits. The Indian Readymade Garment Industry is growing tremendously and Karnataka’s entry into the Textile division has ended up becoming a major fruitful endeavor. To such an extent that Bangalore has earned itself the title of the ‘Garment capital of India’. With the textile industry possessing a major place in the economic climate of Karnataka, the state government is actually moving in the path of using the possibility for improvement of the clothes component in the express. With extensive review of literature and personal experience, a need was felt to study the Employee welfare and development activities carried out in the RMG industries and how it influences the Organizational Performance of the employees. To carry out this study 10 Textile Industries and two textile parks across Karnataka were chosen for study using Cochran Formula with Known Population. A 5 Point Likert scale was used to design a questionnaire to know the opinions of the employees in this regard. A sample of 500 employees randomly chosen from above mentioned industries were administered with questionnaire and the responses received were tabulated and interpreted using the statistical software’s such as SPSS Version 25 and AMOS Version 22. The study revealed that the employees strongly agreed that all statutory welfare requirements are met by the industries, the employees expressed that employee welfare and employee development activities are also taken care by the RMG Industries in which they work. The demographic variables such as Age, Gender, Qualification, Experience and Work profile did not influence the opinions of the respondents in regard to employee welfare and development activities. The relationship between Employee welfare and Organizational Performance was very high but the employee development had a medium relationship with Organizational Performance. To know the indirect effect of employee welfare and employee development on each other in knowing the relationship with Organizational Performance, an indirect effect analysis by Andrew Hayes is performed and results revealed that there is partial mediation and Employee welfare acting as a mediating variable between employee development and Organizational Performance is very strong. With the above finding, the researcher has given suggestions to the employers, Government and also specified how psychological factors also affect the variables under study.
